Western Weaver: I have been a hobby weaver for about 10 years. I started with a small Navajo fixed type loom, tried "stick" weaving (that is weaving the weft around four to ten hand held dowels, pushing the weft down on to the warp which is trailing at the end of the dowel), then I used a traditional loom for a season. Currently I do only stick weaving but now my "sticks" are modified knitting needles. The resulting columns of weaving are then connected in "piano hinge" fashion. The advantage of this type of weaving for me is that it is portable. I can easily move my projects between my summer (Wyoming) and winter (Utah) range. I have developed the techniques required to keep each column spaced properly so it will match the next one exactly. Creating patterns is also a fun challenge.
